DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed deep emotional appreciation on January 21, 2017, after interacting with student activists who spoke at the DMK-organized state-wide hunger strike demanding the resumption of Jallikattu. Stalin reflected on the passionate, articulate speeches delivered by young students who joined the demonstration, stating that their cultural conviction, intellectual clarity, and social dedication had deeply moved him.
Stalin observed that student speakers eloquently laid bare the ecological, historical, and economic rationale underpinning indigenous cattle rearing and bull-taming traditions. Their speeches effectively dismantled corporate and urban elite misconceptions surrounding the sport, demonstrating that rural traditions were deeply scientific and essential to rural agrarian ecosystems. The students' fearlessness and eloquence highlighted the profound depth of Tamil cultural awareness among the youth.
The opposition leader stressed that the DMK organized the hunger strike specifically to amplify the voice of youth and apply relentless democratic pressure on central and state governments. Stalin praised the students for spearheading an enlightened, inclusive cultural renaissance. He pledged that the DMK would continue to offer its full organizational support to student initiatives defending Tamil pride and rights.
