DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged judicial authorities and state administrators on January 24, 2017, to immediately secure and preserve all closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage recorded during the police crackdown on Jallikattu protesters. Stalin specifically demanded the preservation of surveillance records from areas where lathi charges occurred, locations where autorickshaws were set ablaze, and the vicinity surrounding the Ice House police station in Chennai.

Stalin stressed that visual evidence from public surveillance cameras, traffic junctions, and private commercial establishments was vital to uncovering the truth behind widespread arson and violence. Distressing video clips had surfaced showing uniformed personnel actively vandalizing civilian vehicles, beating innocent residents, and initiating fires, raising grave questions about provocations engineered to discredit the student movement.

The opposition leader warned that without prompt judicial oversight, crucial electronic evidence could be erased, tampered with, or destroyed by compromised authorities seeking to conceal police misconduct. Stalin insisted that independent forensic experts supervise the custody of all digital recordings.
