DMK working president M.K. Stalin severely criticized the AIADMK state government on January 24, 2017, for unleashing sudden police violence against peaceful Jallikattu demonstrators on Marina Beach. Stalin pointed out the appalling contradiction of deploying law enforcement personnel to baton-charge, tear-gas, and assault the very citizens they had guarded peacefully for seven consecutive days.
Stalin asserted that the peaceful congregation of students, youth, and families had set a worldwide benchmark for civilized, non-violent civic resistance. Instead of maintaining dialogue and facilitating an orderly dispersal following legislative action, the state administration ordered a forceful eviction. The subsequent chaos, tear gas deployment, and physical assaults exposed how politicized orders degraded professional police standards.
The opposition leader accused the ruling administration of utter administrative incompetence and tactical failure. He noted that using strong-arm tactics against unarmed youth and neighbouring fishing hamlets tarnished Tamil Nadu's democratic reputation. Stalin demanded that Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam answer for who authorized the violent crackdown. He affirmed that the DMK would vigorously fight for total accountability, judicial transparency, and complete justice on behalf of injured youth and affected residents.
