DMK working president M.K. Stalin emphasized the vital social significance of the Jallikattu movement on January 25, 2017, proposing that the traditional sport be organized as an egalitarian celebration of communal harmony. Stalin observed that the defining feature of the historic Marina uprising was the complete absence of caste, religious, or sectarian divisions among the hundreds of thousands of youth and students who assembled.

Stalin asserted that the mass agitation proved that youth across Tamil Nadu viewed indigenous cultural traditions through the lens of shared identity and mutual respect rather than narrow sectarian hierarchies. To preserve this transformative spirit, he suggested that future sporting events should be conducted as "Samathuva Jallikattu" (Egalitarian Jallikattu), ensuring fair participation, equal dignity, and collective celebration across all communities.

The opposition leader stressed that traditional sports must serve to unite people rather than reinforce social exclusivity or archaic prejudices. Stalin commended the young generation for exemplifying modern democratic and secular values while championing ancient cultural heritage. He concluded that conducting inclusive, caste-free events was the most fitting tribute to the idealism and unity displayed by Tamil Nadu's youth.
