DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an affectionate yet firm appeal to party workers on January 29, 2017, requesting them to strictly refrain from erecting banners along roadsides during his official visits. Framing his message as "one among you," Stalin stated that as he traveled across various districts to meet citizens and cadres, public convenience and road safety had to take absolute precedence over ceremonial welcomes.
Stalin observed that long rows of flex banners flanking arterial roads obstructed visibility for motorists, posed severe hazards to two-wheeler riders, and inconvenienced local pedestrians. He noted that public highways and neighbourhood streets belonged to ordinary citizens and should never be compromised by political display. He urged party functionaries to demonstrate warmth and political enthusiasm through productive community service and orderly greetings instead of hazardous installations.
The opposition leader underscored that maintaining civic discipline was essential for any responsible political movement aiming to earn the public's confidence. Stalin instructed local organizers to ensure that no roadside hoardings were installed in his name or for party functions. He concluded that abiding by civic order reflected true respect for party values and democratic ideals.
