DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a stern warning to the Tamil Nadu government on February 5, 2017, regarding the gruesome sexual assault and murder of Dalit youth Nandhini in Ariyalur district. Stalin declared that if the state administration failed to conduct an exhaustive investigation and prosecute all culprits diligently, the DMK would directly intervene in the High Court to secure justice on behalf of the victim's grieving family.
Stalin condemned the heinous crime, expressing profound indignation at the brutality inflicted upon a young woman. He criticized local police authorities for initial lethargy and investigative negligence, pointing out that delays in arresting suspects caused intense distress to the marginalized community. He emphasized that women's safety across Tamil Nadu had deteriorated drastically under the current regime, with law enforcement failing to maintain effective vigilance.
The opposition leader asserted that societal silence or administrative indifference in the face of brutal violence could not be tolerated. Stalin affirmed that the DMK's legal wing stood ready to file necessary petitions and monitor legal proceedings closely. He demanded that the state government provide maximum compensation to the bereaved family, fast-track the trial, and ensure exemplary punishment for every accused perpetrator.
