DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an urgent appeal to acting Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on February 8, 2017, calling for immediate constitutional intervention to resolve Tamil Nadu's deepening political vacuum. Stalin stated that the state was experiencing total administrative paralysis, with executive authority fractured between rival factions within the ruling AIADMK following Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam's forced resignation and subsequent rebellion.
Stalin highlighted that the absence of a decisive, functioning government severely compromised the welfare of millions of citizens. Essential administrative operations had ceased, drought relief for struggling farmers remained unattended, and law enforcement agencies were deployed for factional security rather than public protection. He maintained that the state could not be left to drift indefinitely while political leaders engaged in resort confinement and coercive politics.
The opposition leader stressed that the Governor was constitutionally obligated to uphold the rule of law and safeguard democratic governance. Stalin urged Governor Rao to examine the prevailing situation through constitutional parameters, assess legislative claims objectively, and ensure the prompt establishment of an accountable, stable administration. He affirmed that DMK stood firmly committed to protecting democratic norms and public interests throughout the crisis.
