DMK working president M.K. Stalin launched a sharp political critique against AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala on February 8, 2017, accusing her of unbridled ambition and desperate political maneuvering. Stalin asserted that Sasikala was leveling unfounded allegations against the DMK out of deep frustration after her abrupt attempt to become Chief Minister through backdoor channels hit severe legal, constitutional, and public roadblocks.
Stalin noted that Sasikala's hasty election as legislature party leader had provoked widespread public outrage and open defiance from senior party colleagues. Unable to manage the mounting popular backlash against her bid for power, she had resorted to erratic accusations, grasping at straws to deflect attention. He remarked that her hostility toward the DMK reflected the anxiety of an unelected leader whose shortcut to authority had unraveled.
The opposition leader affirmed that Tamil Nadu's citizens were acutely aware of the democratic impropriety surrounding Sasikala's elevation. Stalin stated that genuine leadership required public mandate, ethical governance, and accountability rather than palace intrigues. He reiterated that DMK would continue to champion constitutional propriety and oppose any backroom efforts to hijack the state's highest executive office.
