DMK working president M.K. Stalin characterized as shameful and absurd the statements made by AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala on February 8, 2017. Sasikala had claimed that caretaker Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam exchanging a smile with Stalin during Assembly proceedings was the catalyst behind the ruling party's internal factional rupture. Stalin rejected the assertion, arguing that AIADMK leaders were manufacturing excuses to explain away their internal power struggles.
Stalin observed that the spectacle of internal dysfunction and public discord engulfing the AIADMK was entirely self-inflicted. He pointed out that attributing a profound political split to routine legislative politeness demonstrated the ruling clique's utter pettiness. According to Stalin, elected representatives in any functional democracy acknowledge colleagues across the aisle without compromising their party convictions or policy stances.
The opposition leader underscored that Panneerselvam's grievances stemmed from systemic coercion, family domination, and unconstitutional interference rather than a passing smile in the legislature. Stalin declared that the DMK refused to serve as a convenient scapegoat for AIADMK factional intrigue. He urged the ruling party to resolve its internal leadership dilemmas without trivializing democratic practices and Assembly decorum.
