DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly dismissed allegations made by AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala regarding legislative courtesies in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. Sasikala had cited an exchange of smiles between caretaker Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Stalin on the floor of the House as evidence of political collusion. In response, Stalin highlighted basic democratic decorum that characterized parliamentary interactions between seasoned political leaders.
Stalin recalled that late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had herself exchanged polite greetings and smiles with him inside the Assembly chamber on numerous occasions. He asked rhetorically whether Sasikala would have ever dared to question or reprimand Jayalalithaa for demonstrating standard legislative civility toward the opposition. Stalin described Sasikala's interpretation as petty, demonstrating a complete ignorance of democratic parliamentary conventions.
The opposition leader argued that showing basic human respect and mutual courtesy across party lines was a recognized hallmark of democratic governance. He asserted that Sasikala's attempt to criminalize routine legislative politeness revealed her political insecurity and lack of legislative experience. Stalin maintained that DMK would continue upholding mature parliamentary traditions despite unprovoked attacks from ruling faction leaders.
