DMK working president M.K. Stalin declared on February 9, 2017, that given the unprecedented political crisis and constitutional uncertainty gripping Tamil Nadu, the Governor holds a paramount obligation under the Constitution to establish a stable, independent, and lawful governance mechanism in the state. Stalin pointed out that the entire administrative apparatus had been pushed into severe distress by prolonged factional warfare within the ruling AIADMK, leaving the public without an effective, functional executive leadership to address critical state concerns.

Stalin maintained that constitutional conventions require the Governor to intervene objectively and promptly, preventing any extra-constitutional power centers from usurping democratic authority. With serious corruption cases pending final judicial pronouncements before the Supreme Court, any hasty decision to swear in controversial figures could destabilize state governance and compromise public integrity. The Governor must carefully evaluate constitutional precedents and ensure that governance is entrusted only to a dispensation that commands genuine legislative confidence and untainted legal standing.

The opposition leader stressed that the DMK expects the gubernatorial office to act with complete impartiality and constitutional fidelity. He urged the Governor to protect Tamil Nadu from enduring administrative instability.
