DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound joy on February 10, 2017, after participating alongside the local residents of Alanganallur in the celebrated Jallikattu festival, which was triumphantly reclaimed through the valiant, non-violent struggle of students and youth across Tamil Nadu. Visiting the world-renowned sporting arena in Madurai district, Stalin witnessed the traditional spectacle of bull taming, where spirited rural bulls and courageous youths engaged in athletic contests that have defined Tamil valor and agrarian traditions for centuries.
Stalin noted that Alanganallur stands as the historic epicenter of the Jallikattu movement, where rural villagers and local youth initiated the determined protests that subsequently ignited a statewide cultural revolution. Standing among thousands of cheering spectators, rural cattle rearers, and village elders, Stalin shared in the collective jubilation marking the formal return of indigenous cultural heritage. He observed that the festive energy in the village represented the sweet fruit of peaceful civil resistance against external cultural impositions and legal misunderstandings.
The opposition leader commended the festival organizers and local community for conducting the event with impeccable tradition and mutual respect. He reaffirmed the DMK's steadfast commitment to protecting indigenous Tamil culture.
