DMK working president M.K. Stalin observed on February 12, 2017, that while the painful memories of police brutality against peaceful youth protesters at Marina beach and across the state remained deep emotional scars, the revived Jallikattu events were celebrated with inspiring social equality and mutual respect, completely transcending historical caste hierarchies. Stalin pointed out that the historic youth movement had fundamentally transformed public consciousness, uniting people of all social strata and religious backgrounds under a common cultural banner of Tamil identity and dignity.
Stalin noted that traditional rural sports had historically suffered from exclusionary social practices in certain pockets, but the newly reclaimed Jallikattu demonstrated remarkable social harmony, with youth from diverse communities participating alongside one another as equals in the sporting arena. This democratic spirit of fellowship exemplified the core social justice ideals championed by the Dravidian movement, proving that cultural revival and progressive egalitarianism can reinforce each other powerfully. The disciplined conduct of the participants silenced critics who had characterized the sport as socially regressive.
The opposition leader commended the youth for transforming a cultural protest into a milestone for social equality. He urged communities to nurture this enduring spirit of caste-free brotherhood.
