DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply questioned the state police administration on February 12, 2017, demanding to know why law enforcement agencies failed to initiate criminal action against violent political elements despite Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao having directly reviewed state law and order with top police officers. Stalin's query followed violent physical attacks carried out by ruling AIADMK factional goons against media personnel, journalists, and photojournalists attempting to cover political developments outside the Golden Bay resort in Koovathur.
Stalin expressed shock that even after the constitutional head of the state held high-level discussions with the Director General of Police and senior security commissioners to assess law and order, armed political syndicates operated with brazen impunity across coastal Chengalpattu and Chennai. Television crew equipment was smashed, reporters were assaulted, and public movement along highways was illegally restricted by private security cadres guarding captive legislators. This blatant police inaction exposed how thoroughly state enforcement machinery had been compromised by ruling factional pressure.
The opposition leader demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals responsible for assaulting working journalists. He warned that law enforcement failure invites anarchy and undermines public trust in democratic policing.
