DMK working president M.K. Stalin called upon Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on February 14, 2017, to take immediate constitutional steps to install a stable, lawful government in Tamil Nadu following the historic verdict delivered by the Supreme Court of India in the Disproportionate Assets case. The apex court upheld the conviction of AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala, J. Ilavarasi, and V.N. Sudhakaran, ordering their immediate surrender to serve four-year prison sentences and disqualifying Sasikala from holding public office or contesting elections for ten years.
Stalin emphasized that the prolonged political deadlock and factional machinations within the ruling party had severely paralyzed state administration for over nine months, leaving public grievances unaddressed and vital developmental work abandoned. With the highest court conclusively establishing criminal corruption against key figures who sought to control the state government, the Governor holds a solemn constitutional obligation to protect democratic stability and prevent unconstitutional maneuvers to install corrupt proxy leadership.
The opposition leader stressed that executive governance in Tamil Nadu must be restored strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions. He urged the Governor to prioritize state interests above partisan calculations.
