DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an earnest appeal on February 19, 2017, calling upon students, progressive youth, social activists, civil rights organizations, and the general public to unite and participate in large numbers in democratic agitations against the anti-people AIADMK regime. Stalin stressed that the political crisis in Tamil Nadu had ceased to be an ordinary electoral contest between competing political parties; it had escalated into a fundamental struggle to protect democratic institutions, constitutional dignity, and regional self-respect from an unprincipled political mafia.
Stalin pointed out that the illegitimate installation of a proxy government backed by convicted criminal networks directly imperils Tamil Nadu's social harmony, economic growth, and administrative competence. When legislative institutions are captured through coercive resort confinement and unconstitutional procedural manipulations, the responsibility to safeguard democracy falls upon awakened citizens and vibrant civil society groups. He urged youth organizations, democratic movements, and community collectives to set aside minor ideological differences and forge a powerful civic coalition to defeat administrative authoritarianism.
The opposition leader assured the public that the DMK would provide unwavering organizational support to all non-violent democratic protests. He reiterated that popular unity alone can restore clean governance.
