DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply questioned former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on February 26, 2017, demanding to know what concrete administrative actions he initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding J. Jayalalithaa's prolonged hospitalization and death during his tenure in office. Stalin pointed out that Panneerselvam served as Chief Minister for over two months following Jayalalithaa's passing, yet never ordered a judicial inquiry, forensic examination, or administrative review into the medical protocols or custodial secrecy maintained at Apollo Hospitals.

Stalin observed that Panneerselvam chose to raise suspicions and demand inquiry commissions only after being ousted from the Chief Minister's chair during internal factional rivalry with V.K. Sasikala's family. Raising serious allegations about a departed leader's demise merely as a political weapon after forfeiting executive privileges exposes utter political duplicity. Stalin asked why Panneerselvam maintained total silence while occupying the state's highest administrative office if he genuinely harbored doubts about foul play or medical neglect.

The opposition leader stated that Tamil Nadu's citizens demand institutional truth rather than factional recriminations. He reiterated that only an independent judicial inquiry under court supervision could uncover the facts impartially.
