DMK working president M.K. Stalin denounced the hypocritical power struggle between competing AIADMK factions on February 26, 2017, pointing out that Tamil Nadu citizens are clearly observing the opportunistic loyalty displayed by leaders who previously suppressed critical questions regarding former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's death. Stalin observed that while Jayalalithaa was hospitalized for seventy-five days, ministers and senior party officials maintained complete secrecy, refusing to disclose factual medical bulletins or allow senior cabinet colleagues to visit her bedside.
Stalin asserted that the sudden claims of deep loyalty and suspicious revelations voiced by rival factional leaders emerged only after they were stripped of executive power or marginalized within the party hierarchy. This belated concern exposed their unprincipled political opportunism, demonstrating that their primary motive was factional survival and control over state apparatus rather than genuine truth or affection for their departed leader. The public has grown thoroughly disillusioned with this cynical political theater staged at the expense of administrative integrity.
The opposition leader reaffirmed the DMK's demand for a comprehensive judicial commission headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge to investigate Jayalalithaa's hospitalization and treatment.
