DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin demanded on March 2, 2017, that the Tamil Nadu government immediately approach central authorities in New Delhi to secure presidential assent for the state assembly's NEET exemption legislation prior to the scheduled examination date of May 7. Stalin reminded the ruling administration that the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed two crucial bills to exempt the state's undergraduate and postgraduate medical aspirants from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, safeguarding social justice and the state's established admission procedures.
Stalin pointed out that with the national entrance test scheduled for early May, rural students and Tamil-medium candidates were experiencing severe psychological distress and academic uncertainty due to administrative inaction. A unanimous legislative resolution carries constitutional weight only if the state executive pursues formal approval vigorously with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the President of India. Failure to obtain timely presidential assent would jeopardize the medical aspirations of thousands of disadvantaged students.
The opposition leader urged the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi immediately. He stressed that protecting rural medical opportunities requires uncompromising executive resolve.
