DMK working president M.K. Stalin severely criticized the ruling AIADMK government and its council of ministers on March 2, 2017, urging them to divert at least a fraction of the attention they lavish on Bengaluru central prison toward safeguarding the academic future of Tamil Nadu's students. Stalin pointed out that while state ministers, legislators, and senior officials were making frequent pilgrimages to Karnataka to consult convicted party general secretary V.K. Sasikala, critical educational challenges affecting lakhs of young learners remained entirely unaddressed in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin highlighted that state board students were facing intense anxiety regarding impending national entrance examinations like NEET, alongside mounting infrastructure deficiencies in government schools and delayed distribution of welfare materials. Instead of coordinating with administrative departments to resolve educational bottlenecks and defend state medical quotas, ruling ministers remained preoccupied with factional maneuvers and showing subservience to incarcerated leadership. This misplaced administrative focus demonstrated callous disregard for youth welfare.
The opposition leader demanded that the Chief Minister instruct his cabinet colleagues to attend to their statutory administrative responsibilities immediately. He warned that neglecting students' interests would invite widespread public backlash.
