DMK working president M.K. Stalin reflected on March 2, 2017, on the inspiring sight of thousands of party cadres queueing with books in their hands to greet him on his birthday, remarking that the vibrant gathering had transformed into the living definition of the party headquarters' name, Arivalayam, which signifies the Temple of Knowledge. Stalin noted that cadres from across Tamil Nadu had enthusiastically embraced his appeal to abandon ceremonial extravagance, such as decorative shawls and garlands, in favor of informative literature.
Stalin observed that this cultural shift demonstrated the enduring intellectual character of the Dravidian movement, established by leaders like C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi, who consistently placed literature and rationalist inquiry at the center of political mobilization. The sight of grassroots party workers proudly bearing books illustrated a conscious rejection of wasteful rituals and reaffirmed the DMK's commitment to progressive social enlightenment. The collected books will directly replenish rural and student libraries across the state.
The opposition leader commended the cadres for their intellectual dedication and exemplary social consciousness. He encouraged young party workers to cultivate consistent reading habits and propagate progressive literature.
