DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced on March 2, 2017, that distribution work had commenced to donate over 10,000 books received as birthday gifts from party cadres and well-wishers to various public libraries and student institutions across Tamil Nadu. Stalin explained that after setting aside a modest collection necessary for his personal reading and political reference, the overwhelming majority of volumes were being categorized systematically to benefit students and avid readers in rural and semi-urban communities.
Stalin noted that expanding access to knowledge remains the cornerstone of the Dravidian movement's ideological foundation. Rather than accumulating ceremonial gifts or hoarding literature in private collections, channeling books toward community reading rooms, college libraries, and village study centers fosters an enlightened reading culture among young students. The donated volumes encompass regional literature, scientific treatises, political history, biographies, and competitive examination guides designed to broaden students' intellectual horizons.
The opposition leader expressed profound gratitude to party functionaries who honored his request to gift books instead of expensive shawls and floral bouquets. He affirmed that empowering youth through quality education and wide reading remains his foremost lifelong priority.
