DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on March 4, 2017, to conduct all government procurement and public tenders with complete transparency, insisting that administrative decisions must focus solely on safeguarding the state treasury from corrupt practices. Stalin pointed out that recurring allegations of kickbacks and tender manipulations in key infrastructure departments have severely damaged public finances and compromised the quality of developmental projects across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin emphasized that the head of government bears direct constitutional accountability for preventing institutional leakages and ensuring fair competition among qualified bidders. He argued that public contracts should never be structured to enrich political cronies or favored private contractors at taxpayer expense. With state finances already strained under rising debt burdens, transparent tender evaluations remain essential for protecting public revenues and restoring administrative credibility.
The opposition leader called for immediate structural safeguards, including public disclosure of tender norms and stringent oversight mechanisms across state departments. He warned that the DMK will persistently monitor procurement decisions, expose irregular allocations, and mobilize democratic opposition against corrupt tender awards to uphold financial discipline.
