DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin issued urgent directives to all eighty-nine DMK members of the legislative assembly on March 5, 2017, instructing them to carry out comprehensive on-the-ground inspections of fair price ration shops across their respective constituencies and submit formal investigative reports to party headquarters immediately. Stalin emphasized that people's representatives must remain proactively engaged with citizens' daily struggles and hold public distribution machinery strictly accountable.
Stalin mandated that legislators verify stock availability, examine commodity quality, interact directly with ration cardholders waiting in queues, and record specific instances of shortages regarding rice, sugar, pulses, and cooking oil. He underscored that compiled empirical findings from all eighty-nine constituencies would be synthesized into an exhaustive indictment of governmental negligence, which the DMK will present forcefully inside the legislative assembly during upcoming budget debates.
The opposition leader reaffirmed that elected legislators must function as vigilant protectors of public welfare rather than passive observers. He called upon all DMK MLAs to discharge this supervisory duty with utmost diligence, ensuring that the grievances of ordinary citizens across Tamil Nadu receive prompt legislative advocacy and administrative redressal.
