DMK working president M.K. Stalin reflected on the profound philosophical foundation of the Dravidian movement on March 6, 2017, affirming that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was established out of the historic necessity to secure political power so that the rationalist, egalitarian ideals of Thanthai Periyar could be given practical, legislative shape to lead the Dravidian people into a modern, enlightened era. Stalin emphasized that Periyar's radical social philosophy required state legislative authority to effect durable systemic change.

Stalin observed that before the rise of the Dravidian movement, oppressed communities were systematically denied education, social dignity, and administrative representation under oppressive orthodox structures. By capturing political power through democratic elections under Perarignar Anna's guidance, the DMK enacted landmark reforms, including universal community reservation, self-respect marriage legalization, and inclusive educational expansion. This historic convergence of social ideology and executive power permanently democratized Tamil society and uplifted millions of disadvantaged citizens.

The opposition leader reminded cadre that the DMK remains an ideological movement rooted in social justice, equality, and rationalism. He urged the new generation of workers to remain faithful to these foundational principles and advance the Dravidian renaissance.
