DMK working president M.K. Stalin launched a stinging attack on the AIADMK government on March 10, 2017, accusing the ruling administration of enacting a fiscal mockery by burdening every single citizen of Tamil Nadu with more than 35,000 rupees in state debt. Stalin pointed out that through reckless borrowing, gross financial incompetence, and systemic revenue leakage, the government had transformed a previously prosperous state into one of the most debt-stressed territories in the Indian Union.

Stalin explained that while per capita public liabilities had escalated dramatically, the state's citizens witnessed zero improvement in basic public utilities, municipal infrastructure, agrarian support systems, or job creation. Rural areas continued to suffer from severe drinking water scarcity and unmitigated drought distress, while youth faced shrinking employment opportunities. Stalin asserted that forcing ordinary citizens and future generations to bear the crushing weight of governmental profligacy without delivering productive assets represents an unforgivable governance failure.

The opposition leader demanded that the state leadership acknowledge its administrative failures and present an immediate debt stabilization plan. He reaffirmed the DMK's commitment to exposing fiscal mismanagement inside the assembly, pledging to restore prudent financial stewardship for Tamil Nadu's economic prosperity.
