DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the Union government on March 14, 2017, to immediately transfer the investigation into the mysterious deaths of Tamil Nadu students Saravanan and Muthukrishnan to the Central Bureau of Investigation to uncover the truth and punish the perpetrators. Stalin voiced deep anguish over the recurring tragedies befalling talented youth from Tamil Nadu who had traveled to premier national educational institutions in New Delhi to pursue higher studies and public service dreams.
Stalin recalled that Dr. Saravanan, an aspiring post-graduate medical scholar at AIIMS New Delhi, was found dead under deeply suspicious circumstances in his room, while JNU research scholar Muthukrishnan was discovered dead shortly after documenting systemic caste discrimination within university portals. Stalin emphasized that state police investigations had failed to provide credible answers or reassure grief-stricken families who suspected foul play. He stressed that when brilliant students from marginalized backgrounds face untimely deaths, prompt institutional justice is paramount.
The opposition leader demanded that central home authorities institute an independent, high-level CBI inquiry without bureaucratic delay. He reaffirmed that the DMK will stand resolutely beside the bereaved families until complete justice and truth are achieved.
