DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply condemned the Tamil Nadu government on March 26, 2017, for exhibiting complete apathy toward distressed farmers protesting in New Delhi while deploying its entire administrative energy into devising door-to-door voter bribery schemes in Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar. Stalin observed that while elderly agriculturists were undergoing extreme physical hardship at Jantar Mantar demanding urgent drought relief and farm loan waivers, ruling party ministers were camping in Chennai formulating strategies to distribute illicit cash across bypoll wards.
Stalin asserted that this grotesque contrast exposed the moral bankruptcy of the ruling administration. An ethical government would have prioritized saving dying agrarian livelihoods and confronting the worst drought Tamil Nadu had faced in over a century. Instead, cabinet ministers abandoned departmental responsibilities and state governance, dedicating themselves entirely to subverting democratic processes through monetary inducements. Stalin warned that attempting to buy citizen votes with ill-gotten wealth degrades constitutional democracy.
The opposition leader affirmed that the people of Tamil Nadu and discerning electors of RK Nagar recognize this administrative callousness. He demanded that ministers cease electoral corruption, address rural misery immediately, and deliver long-overdue agrarian relief.
