Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin posed a sharp question to former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on March 29, 2017, asking how insights regarding the mysterious circumstances of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's hospitalization and death suddenly dawned upon him after a forty-minute meditation at Marina beach, when no such doubts arose during his sixty-four days as serving Chief Minister. Addressing election gatherings, Stalin highlighted the glaring contradiction in Panneerselvam's sudden moral awakening.

Stalin pointed out that Panneerselvam held the state home portfolio and headed the government immediately following Jayalalithaa's demise, wielding full constitutional and administrative powers to order any judicial inquiry or medical investigation. During that crucial tenure, however, Panneerselvam maintained complete silence and defended all government decisions without raising single question. Stalin contended that invoking the late leader's memory only after losing executive power was a desperate bid to garner sympathy among RK Nagar electors.

The opposition leader affirmed that the DMK had consistently demanded a transparent judicial probe into Jayalalithaa's medical treatment from the very beginning. He condemned using personal tragedies for cynical political survival, urging voters to demand genuine accountability.
