DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded an immediate explanation from the state government on March 31, 2017, questioning the rationale behind issuing a reappointment order to former Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao. Stalin underscored that Rao was removed in utter disgrace after income tax authorities conducted unprecedented search operations inside the Chief Secretary's chamber at Fort St. George. He asserted that reinstating an official who brought historic ignominy to the state administration completely degrades public trust.
Stalin recalled that federal investigators had recovered massive unaccounted cash, gold, and incriminating ledgers linking Rao to widespread commercial kickbacks and political favoritism. Yet, without any formal public clearance or completion of criminal proceedings, the ruling dispensation had quietly restored him to an influential executive posting. The opposition leader questioned whether the government was functioning under severe administrative paralysis or engaging in a desperate political manoeuvre to shield influential co-conspirators.
Stalin declared that clean governance demands uncompromising integrity and accountability across public life. He urged the administration to revoke the controversial posting immediately and permit statutory anti-corruption agencies to prosecute the case without political interference.
