DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on April 1, 2017, to stand in personal solidarity with Tamil Nadu farmers waging an historic continuous protest for agrarian survival. Meeting farmer leader P. Ayyakkannu and hundreds of protesting cultivators who had spent weeks on the pavements, Stalin sat with them, listened attentively to their agonies, and conveyed the wholehearted support of the DMK and the entire people of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin observed that witnessing hardworking farmers forced to resort to extreme protests under New Delhi's scorching sun to demand basic survival rights was deeply agonizing for every citizen. The protesters sought nationalised bank loan waivers, adequate central drought assistance, the interlinking of southern rivers, and the immediate constitution of the Cauvery Management Board. Stalin condemned the central government's callous indifference and pledged that the DMK would relentlessly amplify their voices across national forums and parliamentary debates.
The opposition leader assured the agitating farmers that they were not alone in their righteous struggle. He promised to coordinate united political action across Tamil Nadu until every genuine agrarian demand was fully conceded.
