DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal on April 1, 2017, urging both Union and state governments to halt endless bureaucratic debates over administrative jurisdiction and immediately deliver concrete relief solutions to save distressed farmers. Stalin criticized the shameful spectacle of central and state authorities trading blame over who bears financial responsibility for drought relief, while rural families were being driven to suicide across Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that saving human lives must transcend jurisdictional disputes.

Stalin pointed out that agriculture is the foundational pillar of the nation's economy and social fabric. When Tamil Nadu faced its worst drought in over a century, farmers required immediate loan waivers, direct cash assistance, drinking water supplies, and guaranteed irrigation support. Passing the buck between Delhi and Chennai while cultivators protested on New Delhi streets demonstrated cold administrative callousness. The opposition leader stated that governance exists to resolve citizen distress during emergencies, not provide procedural excuses for inaction.

Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently stand with farmers on the streets and in legislative chambers. He demanded that both administrations act with urgency and compassion to restore agrarian dignity.
