DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a severe condemnation on April 3, 2017, accusing the AIADMK administration of deliberately paralyzing the Dravidian Movement Research Centre out of ideological malice. Stalin pointed out that the ruling dispensation aimed to prevent the younger generation from understanding the transformative history of Tamil Nadu's social justice movements, backward classes reservations, and self-respect struggles. He characterized the systematic dismantling of the academic research institution as an unforgivable cultural betrayal.
Stalin explained that the Dravidian movement had dismantled centuries-old caste hegemony, expanded educational access, secured communal representation, and built India's most egalitarian state. The research centre was established by the DMK government to document archival records, support doctoral research, and transmit progressive rationalist philosophies to future scholars. By starving the centre of research funding, qualified staff, and institutional leadership, the AIADMK government sought to appease conservative anti-reservation forces.
The opposition leader affirmed that the DMK will persistently protect and promote Dravidian intellectual history for future generations. He vowed that when the DMK returned to power, the research centre would be fully revitalized with world-class academic resources and autonomous administrative support.
