DMK working president M.K. Stalin met with hundreds of traditional fishermen and community elders in Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar on April 3, 2017, to hear their grievances firsthand and understand the severe livelihood distress confronting coastal families. Gathered in local community halls and beachfront hamlets, fishermen spoke of soaring operational costs, diminishing fish stocks, harassment at sea, and complete absence of state government support during natural disasters and seasonal bans.
Stalin expressed deep empathy with the fishing community, praising their fearless industriousness and vital contribution to Tamil Nadu's economy. He pointed out that the AIADMK administration had utterly neglected maritime welfare, leaving coastal villages without cold storage infrastructure, modern fish landing centers, or reliable sea-erosion protection walls. Stalin assured the community that the DMK views fisherfolk as essential primary producers deserving the same dignity, institutional credit, and subsidized inputs provided to agrarian farmers.
The opposition leader pledged that DMK nominee Marudhu Ganesh would act as an energetic, dedicated voice for coastal communities in the assembly. Stalin reaffirmed his personal dedication to securing lasting economic prosperity and social dignity for Tamil Nadu's fishing villages.
