DMK working president M.K. Stalin declared on April 3, 2017, that the judicial commission of inquiry to be constituted under an upcoming DMK government would thoroughly investigate both V.K. Sasikala's family and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam regarding the mysterious demise of J. Jayalalithaa. Addressing an enthusiastic public meeting in Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar, Stalin underscored that millions of citizens deserved absolute transparency regarding the 75-day hospitalization, medical treatment, and subsequent demise of the former Chief Minister.

Stalin pointed out that Panneerselvam held executive charge of key departments during Jayalalithaa's hospitalization and signed official documents without raising a single question at that time. Only after losing the Chief Minister's post did Panneerselvam stage a political rebellion and demand inquiries. Stalin argued that Panneerselvam was an active participant in maintaining secrecy surrounding the hospital stay. Therefore, any credible investigation into the circumstances must examine his role alongside that of the Poes Garden household.

The opposition leader assured the public that a DMK administration would establish a transparent, high-level judicial inquiry. He affirmed that justice would be served impartially, ensuring complete accountability before the people of Tamil Nadu.
