DMK working president M.K. Stalin voiced deep sadness on April 7, 2017, lamenting that Tamil Nadu's collective dignity was thoroughly compromised as federal tax investigators raided the official residence of Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar on World Health Day. Stalin observed the bitter irony that on an internationally celebrated day dedicated to advancing public health and medical welfare, the state's health minister was embroiled in massive corruption and electoral bribery investigations. He called the development an acute embarrassment for the entire state.
Stalin highlighted the tragic state of public healthcare across Tamil Nadu, where government hospitals faced crippling shortages of life-saving medicines, diagnostic machines, and medical professionals. While impoverished patients struggled to obtain basic treatment in rural primary health centers, those entrusted with public health administration were allegedly amassing illicit fortunes to buy votes. Stalin stressed that public healthcare is a fundamental human right, not a revenue engine for self-serving political functionaries.
The opposition leader demanded the immediate dismissal of the health minister to restore institutional decency. He reiterated the DMK's steadfast commitment to revitalizing public health systems with honesty, compassion, and world-class healthcare facilities.
