DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded on April 8, 2017, that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his entire council of ministers resign immediately, taking full moral and political responsibility for unprecedented cash-for-votes disclosures. Stalin pointed out that official income tax searches had revealed widespread involvement of top ministers in systematic financial distribution schemes to buy votes in RK Nagar. He declared that an administration tainted by such monumental illegality had lost all constitutional legitimacy to rule.
Stalin observed that democratic administration depends upon the moral authority of executive leaders. When investigative agencies unearth documentary evidence showing cabinet members allocating state funds and kickbacks to influence voters, continuing in high office is an insult to the people of Tamil Nadu. The opposition leader emphasized that the entire administrative apparatus had ground to a halt, leaving farmers, unorganized workers, and drought-hit citizens without relief while ministers focused exclusively on corrupt political survival.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently mobilize public opinion against administrative degeneration. He demanded that the ruling dispensation step aside and face the electorate honestly rather than continuing an unprincipled hold on state power.
