DMK working president M.K. Stalin took a decisive stand for democratic propriety on April 8, 2017, demanding that all cabinet ministers implicated in illegal cash distribution be brought before the law and permanently disqualified from contesting future elections. Stalin expressed deep dismay over official search findings documenting widespread financial inducement in the Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar by-election. He insisted that treating electoral bribery as a routine political misdemeanor destroys the foundational credibility of parliamentary democracy.
Stalin asserted that statutory regulatory bodies must establish powerful deterrent precedents against money power. When ministers sworn to uphold the Constitution systematically violate anti-corruption laws to manipulate electoral outcomes, they forfeit every moral and legal right to participate in public office. The opposition leader argued that merely seizing unaccounted funds without disqualifying key political conspirators encourages perpetual electoral lawlessness. Law enforcement agencies, he maintained, must apply the Prevention of Corruption Act rigorously without shielding influential figures.
The DMK leader reiterated his unyielding commitment to transparent elections and systemic legal reforms. He called on democratic institutions to act decisively against corrupt elements to preserve voter confidence across Tamil Nadu.
