DMK working president M.K. Stalin gave an emotional and resolute commitment to residents of Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar on April 9, 2017, affirming that if Kolathur is his beloved child, RK Nagar would receive equal devotion as his foster child. Addressing extensive campaign gatherings, Stalin vowed to transform the neglected northern Chennai constituency through comprehensive urban infrastructure, upgraded civic amenities, and sustained personal attention. He highlighted how consistent development initiatives had modernized Kolathur under his stewardship.

Stalin observed that RK Nagar had suffered severe neglect under successive AIADMK administrations despite being represented by the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Basic issues including contaminated drinking water, open sewage channels, inadequate drainage, poorly equipped hospitals, and pothole-ridden roads continued to plague residents daily. Stalin promised that a DMK victory would ensure dedicated public outreach, reliable sanitation networks, modern educational facilities, and prompt grievance redressal mechanisms for every neighborhood.
