DMK working president M.K. Stalin responded on April 11, 2017, to the Election Commission's decision to rescind the R.K. Nagar by-election, declaring that the cancellation had merely postponed the DMK's inevitable democratic victory. Stalin emphasized that the entire state was well aware that massive corrupt practices, cash distributions, and systemic abuse of state power by the ruling AIADMK had forced the constitutional authority to cancel the poll. He noted that the postponement was a direct consequence of ruling party misconduct.

Stalin observed that the DMK candidate had built an insurmountable lead based on honest campaigning and genuine public affection from working-class residents. Sensing their certain defeat, the ruling dispensation had flooded the constituency with hundreds of crores of rupees, turning the democratic process into a mockery. While the cancellation prevented immediate electoral fraud, it also highlighted the failure of oversight bodies to curb illicit money distribution before the poll was compromised, demonstrating the urgent need for stringent electoral reforms.

The DMK leader asserted that whenever elections are eventually conducted, the people will decisively reject corruption. Stalin concluded that no amount of money distribution or procedural delay could prevent the DMK from securing an overwhelming mandate in R.K. Nagar.
