DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK administration on April 11, 2017, exposing its double standards regarding alcohol policy and police conduct. Stalin pointed out that while the ruling party had publicly pledged to implement phased liquor prohibition during the assembly elections, its actual governance consisted of opening state-run TASMAC shops in residential neighborhoods and using brutal police violence against citizens, particularly women, who dared to protest.
Stalin highlighted recent incidents where local communities peacefully demonstrated against the relocation of liquor outlets near schools, temples, and residential streets following judicial orders restricting highway sales. Instead of listening to legitimate neighborhood concerns, the state government deployed heavily armed police units to beat, harass, and arrest unarmed women and elders. This aggressive state response revealed an administration completely dependent on liquor revenues, prioritizing commercial alcohol sales over the safety and dignity of women.
The opposition leader demanded an immediate halt to police violence against anti-TASMAC demonstrators and called for the withdrawal of all false cases registered against peaceful protesters. Stalin pledged that the DMK would actively support citizens' protests, reiterating that a future DMK government would implement total prohibition across Tamil Nadu.
