DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded on April 13, 2017, the immediate constitution of a high-level judicial commission of inquiry, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate widespread corruption charges against Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, and various cabinet ministers. Stalin stated that recent revelations, investigative findings, and seized official documents pointed to massive institutional corruption that compromised the highest offices of state administration.
Stalin underscored that only a credible judicial inquiry led by an eminent jurist free from state executive control could uncover the full extent of public misconduct. Allegations involving compromised government contracts, illegal sand mining networks, and illicit cash distribution during by-elections had severely damaged Tamil Nadu's democratic reputation. When senior ministers themselves faced direct allegations, internal departmental inquiries or controlled police probes were completely incapable of delivering impartial justice or holding powerful figures accountable.
The opposition leader declared that the DMK would pursue every legal and political avenue to ensure a thorough investigation. Stalin emphasized that administrative clean-up is imperative to safeguard public resources, restore institutional integrity, and regain the confidence of the citizens of Tamil Nadu.
