DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded comprehensive public accountability from former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on April 13, 2017, asserting that he could not evade responsibility for years of rampant corruption and maladministration under the AIADMK regime. Stalin noted that Panneerselvam had served as a senior cabinet minister and multiple-term Chief Minister during the very years when systemic corruption, illegal sand mining, and illicit financial practices flourished unchecked across departments.

Stalin pointed out that posing as an upright reformer after losing executive power was an unconvincing political maneuver aimed at misleading the public. The systemic compromises, controversial government tenders, and institutional decay that crippled Tamil Nadu's administration occurred with the full participation and endorsement of senior cabinet members, including Panneerselvam himself. The opposition leader argued that theatrical demonstrations and selective moral outrage could not absolve anyone from constitutional and legal accountability for collective cabinet decisions.

Stalin stated that the DMK would continue pressing for an exhaustive, independent judicial investigation into all corruption scandals of the AIADMK administration. He emphasized that public office requires continuous integrity, declaring that citizens deserve complete truth and institutional accountability rather than calculated political posturing.
