DMK working president M.K. Stalin gave a solemn commitment on April 13, 2017, that an incoming DMK administration would fulfill the legitimate socio-economic demands of the Arundhathiyar community through compassionate governance, eliminating the need for tragic sacrifices of life. Stalin recalled that it was the DMK government under M. Karunanidhi in 2009 that historically enacted the 3 percent exclusive internal reservation for Arundhathiyars within the Scheduled Caste quota, providing educational and employment opportunities to the most oppressed sections.
Stalin expressed profound sorrow that community members were driven to desperate protests to demand the enhancement and proper implementation of this quota. He emphasized that the Dravidian movement was founded upon uplifting marginalized communities through proactive institutional measures rather than making citizens plead for basic entitlements. A responsive administration must engage continuously with community representatives, assess demographic realities, and ensure that reservation benefits reach intended beneficiaries without bureaucratic obstruction.
The opposition leader assured the Arundhathiyar community that their aspirations for educational advancement, dignified employment, and social equality would be fully protected. Stalin promised that a future DMK government would prioritize their comprehensive socio-economic development through dialogue, affirmative action, and social justice.
