DMK working president M.K. Stalin launched a sharp attack against the AIADMK proxy administration on April 14, 2017, decrying its distorted governance priorities. Stalin pointed out that while millions of residents across Tamil Nadu were enduring acute drinking water shortages amidst severe summer drought, the state cabinet appeared focused solely on maximizing revenue through state-run TASMAC liquor outlets. He condemned the government's callous indifference to basic human survival needs while promoting alcohol commercialization.

Stalin highlighted the stark contrast between parched taps in working-class neighborhoods and the active opening of relocated liquor shops along residential streets and highways. Rather than allocating emergency funds, deploying water tankers, and digging community borewells, the administrative machinery was preoccupied with protecting lucrative liquor profits. Women and children were forced to spend entire days hunting for potable water, yet administrative officials displayed no urgency in resolving the growing civic catastrophe.

The opposition leader affirmed that access to clean drinking water is a fundamental constitutional right that no responsible government can ignore. Stalin demanded that the administration declare a water emergency, divert municipal resources toward emergency supply logistics, and halt the aggressive expansion of liquor shops in residential localities.
