போராடும் விவசாயிகளுக்கு ஆதரவாக வருகிற 25.4.2017 அன்று மாநிலம் தழுவிய “முழு அடைப்புப் போராட்டம்” நடைபெறும் என தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது.

DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced on April 16, 2017, that an all-party meeting convened at DMK headquarters had unanimously adopted a resolution to conduct a statewide general strike on April 25. Stalin stated that the bandh was called to express unequivocal solidarity with distressed Tamil Nadu farmers protesting for basic survival and agrarian justice. He urged all sections of society, including merchants, transport federations, and civic associations, to participate actively in the peaceful shutdown.

Stalin detailed that the resolution demanded immediate intervention from central and state authorities to address the unprecedented drought crisis. Key demands included declaring Tamil Nadu a disaster-affected state, securing substantial financial relief packages from the Union government, and providing comprehensive loan waivers across both cooperative and commercial banking institutions. He noted that while cultivators faced debt traps and severe crop destruction, executive inaction had pushed rural communities into unprecedented despair, necessitating collective democratic action.

The opposition leader stated that the joint resolution represented the collective resolve of all major secular democratic forces in Tamil Nadu. Stalin declared that the planned bandh would demonstrate peaceful, unified public resistance against governmental indifference toward the state's farming community.
