DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the central administration on April 19, 2017, condemning official policies that give primacy to Hindi while relegating speakers of other regional languages to the status of second-class citizens. Stalin maintained that in a constitutional democracy built on pluralism and mutual respect, no single language could claim superior status over others. Treating non-Hindi speakers as secondary participants in the nation's civic life constituted an assault on democratic equality.
Stalin observed that recent administrative decisions aimed to make Hindi proficiency an implicit prerequisite for central government employment, professional opportunities, and public interactions. This discriminatory approach unfairly penalized millions of talented youths from southern, eastern, and non-Hindi regions who contribute immensely to the nation's economic productivity and scientific achievements. He stressed that languages like Tamil, with rich classical histories predating modern dialects, possess every constitutional and moral right to complete parity in Union governance.
The opposition leader affirmed that the DMK would never tolerate linguistic subjugation in any form. Stalin demanded that the central government treat all Eighth Schedule languages equally and abandon discriminatory linguistic policies that undermine unity across India's diverse federal fabric.
