Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin marked World Book Day on April 23, 2017, by calling for the establishment of public libraries across all district party headquarters, known as Arivalayams, throughout Tamil Nadu. Stalin stated that promoting literacy, scientific temper, and reading habits among the general public, particularly young students, has always been an integral objective of the Dravidian movement. He urged party functionaries to convert local offices into active centers of public learning and intellectual growth.

Stalin highlighted the historic legacy of DMK founders C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi, who were celebrated writers and orators who championed public libraries as essential tools of social emancipation and rational thought. By opening well-stocked libraries with diverse literature on history, politics, science, and Tamil culture, the party would empower grassroots communities with knowledge and critical thinking. He encouraged members to donate books and build modern reading spaces accessible to all citizens regardless of background.

The DMK leader noted that fostering an informed, reading public is the best safeguard for democracy and progressive social reform. Stalin concluded by urging youths to cultivate daily reading habits, affirming that books are transformative instruments for personal advancement and societal progress.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
