DMK working president M.K. Stalin criticized the state Electricity Minister on April 28, 2017, advising him to prioritize resolving acute power supply disruptions instead of mediating factional disputes within the ruling party. Stalin noted that while cabinet ministers were entirely preoccupied with brokering political settlements between rival AIADMK camps, ordinary citizens, farmers, and small manufacturing businesses across Tamil Nadu were suffering from frequent and unannounced power cuts.
Stalin highlighted the growing distress in rural and semi-urban pockets where voltage fluctuations and prolonged electricity blackouts crippled irrigation pumps and disrupted industrial operations. With peak summer temperatures intensifying, reliable electric supply was vital for households, hospitals, and educational institutions. The opposition leader argued that cabinet officials draw their salaries to serve the public interest, making it irresponsible to neglect core administrative portfolios in pursuit of partisan survival and political deal-making.
Stalin demanded that the electricity department immediately review grid stability, rectify local transmission bottlenecks, and ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the state. He asserted that the DMK would stand firmly with affected consumers, warning that continued administrative negligence in essential services would provoke widespread public protests.
