DMK working president M.K. Stalin called for the prompt establishment of a Lokayukta in Tamil Nadu on April 28, 2017, citing a crucial Supreme Court verdict regarding the Lokpal Act. Stalin emphasized that the apex court's clear direction underscored the pressing need for transparent, independent anti-corruption institutions across all levels of government. He demanded that the state administration immediately initiate statutory procedures to establish a robust ombudsman body empowered to investigate allegations against public servants and elected officials.
Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu was lagging behind several other states in enacting Lokayukta legislation, despite widespread public concern over administrative corruption and procedural irregularities. Without a dedicated judicial body to examine complaints independently, public confidence in official accountability remained severely undermined. He urged the state government to demonstrate genuine commitment to clean governance by drafting comprehensive legislation with adequate investigative powers, public transparency, and institutional independence.
The opposition leader stated that the DMK would firmly pursue this anti-corruption agenda inside the legislative assembly and across public platforms. Stalin reiterated that creating an independent Lokayukta is essential to restore administrative integrity and ensure good governance for Tamil Nadu's citizens.
